This
project, based on the value of the historic Kennebec-Chaudière route,
focuses on history and culture, tourism and commerce along the corridor.
It was during a meeting at Co-Entreprise in Rockport in 1997 that
the former Premier Lucien Bouchard of Québec and Governor Angus
S. King of Maine agreed to develop recreational tourism between
Québec and Maine along this route.
A
Maine-Québec joint committee composed of government representatives
and local business and community leaders took on the task of defining
the Kennebec-Chaudière International Corridor.
The committee specifically looked at the cultural
and tourism dimensions of the corridor and concluded that the focus
should be placed on the history and heritage of the two regions
in addition to the impressive landscape and natural beauty of the
corridor.
Thus the Kennebec-Chaudière International Corridor
was born.
