Meaning of the Logo

The compass illustrates the four cardinal points and refers to the geographic dimension of the Kennebec-Chaudière International Corridor. The four sections highlight the major elements featured in the corridor.

The person in a canoe represents the historical and human element. Man’s presence is about 10,000 years old and this way of travel is still visible today. The water under the canoe refers to the two rivers, Kennebec and Chaudière, lying at the heart of this development project, as they enabled innumerable commercial and cultural exchanges. The fort illustrates a shared military history for the two regions. The moose is a reminder of the rich fauna along the corridor and represents an animal omnipresent in Maine. Finally, the schooner represents the sea and refers to the Atlantic Ocean, and to the popular activities linked to the water.

The lines of the cross illustrate the vigourous and long lasting links between the two regions, and suggests a durable partnership.

The fleur de lys and the maple leaf refer to Québec and Canada, while the anchor and the star refer to Maine and the U.S.A. Finally, the choice of natural tones suggests the water, the earth, and the fauna and flora of the region.
