From Augusta south, the Kennebec becomes tidal and
visitors can see evidence of Maine’s early history. Buildings in
the historic districts of Hallowell and Richmond date from the 18th
century. Popham is the site of the first English settlement in North
America.
The city of Bath provides a southern gateway for
the Kennebec-Chaudière International Corridor. Steeped in maritime
tradition, Bath offers excellent museums, restaurants, and cultural
attractions and provides access to a wide array of coastal recreation
opportunities.
